I am a licensed clinical psychologist who works collaboratively with adolescents and adults. I received my PsyD in Clinical Child and Family Psychology and have worked in outpatient settings treating individuals and families struggling to navigate difficult transitions, complex trauma, anxiety, depression, behavioral difficulties, and relationship struggles.
In practice, I have found it critical to be able to draw upon multiple theoretical frameworks to inform treatment that is a good fit for each individual. I tend to use narrative and attachment theories as to the basis for treatment conceptualization and have found that using narrative thinking and techniques with patients helps many patients to identify internal strengths that lead to lasting change. When patients believe themselves to have skills and capacities to navigate life's challenges, they are better able to draw on their own experiences and apply their strengths to new challenges.
Much of my early training was based on attachment theory and I continue to use this framework, with both adults and adolescents. Understanding how the history and patterns of our relational supports or stumbling blocks impact our lives can be an important route to change. Ultimately, I draw on an eclectic range of theories and interventions to inform treatment, all of which rely on a solid relational foundation. The therapist-patient relationship is the basis for all of the work, and as such it is an important focus of treatment to create a secure sense of trust and safety to explore a patient’s current issues.
